                         I. For the sake of travel safety, drivers should put their hands on the steering wheel and

drive carefully. They also should turn on the headlights when driving on a cloudy day or
driving through tunnels. Giving turn signal before changing the lane or making a turn is
also strongly recommended. Secondly, all passengers, as well as drivers, should put on seat

belts when taking a car or taxi. And from February first, 2012, it is compulsory for not
only passengers in the front seats, but also those in the back seats, to wear seat belts. If not,

the driver will get a ticket. And for children of ages 1-4 and weighing between 10-18kg, it
is necessary for them to sit at child safety seats.

As for the equipment, air bags, event data recorder and anti-lock brake system(ABS)

are the most common. Air bags can protect the drivers and passengers from bumping into
the steering wheel and other things in the car if a serious car accident happens. Event data
recorder can help record the accident and give drivers evidence of what really happened in

detail. And sometimes when drivers pulled up the brakes of their cars, the car may continue
to run forward, especially on rainy days. Now, if the car is equipped with anti-lock brake

system, also called ABS, the driver can have a better control over the car. ABS can prevent
the car wheels from being totally locked, which then causes a car to slip on the road. It can
stop on and off so that the brake still functions and escapes slipping.

                          32. Which of the following words has the closest meaning to the underlined and bold-faced
                             word “compulsory” ?
                             (A) necessary (B) evident (C) slippery (D) preventive

                          33. According to the passage, from what day will the driver get a ticket if the passengers on
the back seats don’t wear a seat belt?
