happen most actively and frequently. On March 11, 2011, an undersea earthquake
happened and it accompanying tsunami hit Japan. The high wall of sea water swept across
the landscape and destroyed everything. Because there was barely any warning of the
approaching water, the number of victims was extremely high and the amount of property
loss was massive. The disaster, also called the Tohoku earthquake, has become one of the
worst natural ones in the world.
What’s worse, the violence of tsunami ruined the Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant
and caused a meltdown. This resulted in a nuclear crisis. However, certain workers stayed
and tried to control the leaking nuclear material. They received dangerously high doses of
harmful radiation when they strived to stop or slow a nuclear disaster. The workers were
known as the Fukushima 50, for they risked their lives to stay there.
However, many praises were given to the Japanese people for their calmness and
patience when facing the damage and loss. There were almost no crimes reported. And
though the temporary camps left the refugees in difficult situations, there was little
complaints. They quietly tolerated the hardships and helped each other to make things
better. It showed their unity in dealing with a crisis.
